New Lease Of Life For Iconic Plymouth Pub

One o300710_DCA_The_Waterfront_008_compf Plymouth’s most iconic pubs – the Waterfront, on Grand Parade – opens today (Friday, July 30 2010) after getting a new lease of life thanks to a local family.

The prominent waterside pub reopened at 5pm following a significant investment by St Austell Brewery and the new leaseholders. Helping to pull the first pint were Plymouth Argyle footballer Reda Johnson and Plymouth City Council leader Vivian Pengelly.

Well-known Plymouth family Chris Evans and his three children David, James and Sarah, will be running the pub. They have a number of other businesses in the city, including The Coffee Shack just a few metres away on The Hoe.

Chris said: “Everyone in Plymouth knows The Waterfront and we are delighted to be taking over such a landmark pub. We’re looking forward to welcoming customers old and new.”

The family’s vision for the pub is to create a friendly atmosphere, with quality food and drinks at everyday prices.

“It’s been completely revamped inside and out to make a light, bright and welcoming atmosphere,” explained Chris. “The menu has changed as well – there’s no more lobster! It’s good value, but quality food, with a big emphasis on fresh fish.”

The Waterfront will be open from 7am to midnight for quality coffees, breakfast, brunch and an all-day menu.

Adam Luck, St Austell Brewery’s Estate Director, said: “The Evans family bring a wealth of experience and we’re confident they will do a fantastic job in putting the Waterfront firmly back on the map as one of Plymouth’s premier pubs.”
